Texas Hold'em Rules

At the beginning of the game each player is dealt two cards named also hole cards. After this step five cards named also community cards are dealt face up in successive rounds. This five cards are consisted from:

- the flop - first three cards

- the turn - fourth card

- the river - fifth card

The goal of the game is to make the best hand from your two cards and the five community cards. Players are making hands by using the best five cards combination of their two cards and the five community cards – the best five cards combination from a total of  seven cards. To make the best hand a player may use one or both cards from his hand or he can only use the five community cards.

Each round of the game consist of five basic phases.

 

Preflop Round

The preflop round is also the first betting round. Let’s explain the small blind and the big blind terms.

Small blind is the first player on the left of the dealer. The small blind is obligated to place a certain amount of money in the pot depending on the amount decided before the game.

Big blind is the first player on the left of the small blind. The big blind is obligated to place in the pot double of the amount placed by the small blind.

In our example Player 2 is small blind and Player 3 is big blind

Texas Hold'em Preflop

For example if the blinds are 15/30 then small blind place 15 units (chips or money) in the pot and the big blind place 30 units (chips or money) in the pot. Blinds are grow up every 10 or 15 minutes depending on the time established at the start of the game.

The players that are in the position of the small blind and big blind are obligated to put their amounts in the pot before the deal of the hole cards. After this each player receive the two face down cards. Is the time when it is starting the first betting round.

A player can take the following actions during a betting round:

- fold – a player lay down his cards and withdraw from the round
- check – the action is passed to the next player
- bet – a player makes a wager of units (chips or money)
- call – a player put in the pot the exactly amount of a previously bet
- raise – a previous bet is called, and an additional amount is wagered beside the bet. This amount need to be equal with the bet or greater.

First player on the left of the big blind is talking first. This rule is only for the  first phase because in the succeeding rounds, the player to the left of the dealer (small blind) will be talking first. After this betting round is finished it’s time to go to the next second phase of the game.

 

Flop

In this round the first three community cards are dealt face up. All players can use this cards to build a hand. The second betting round is started. Players can now bet or can withdraw from the round.

Turn

In this round the fourth community card is dealt and the third betting round is started. Players can now bet or can withdraw from the round.

River

In this round the fifth and the last community card is dealt and the final betting round is started. Players can now bet or can withdraw from the round.

Showdown

After all the card have been dealt and the final betting round is finished, the remaining players compare their cards to see who has the best hand. In our example Player 2 is the winner with a Full House Kings over Jacks.
